What is available?
Our client is currently looking to fill 2 surveyor positions at the Yandi Mine Site. These positions will form an inaugural part of the current team, working 9 days on 5 days off rosters FIFO from Perth. Interstate applicants are encouraged to apply, if relocation to Perth is of interest. Why does the job exist?
Our client is currently looking for an experienced Mine Surveyor to play a key role in the development of our client's Yandi mine. This position will see you reporting to the Senior Surveyor and working as an integral part of a team on a wide range of technical mining issues.

As a Mine Surveyor your major duties will include:

  • The accurate collection & utilisation of spatial information
  • Ensuring survey information is collected and provided in a timely fashion
  • Assisting in developing & maintaining survey control network & pit wall stability monitoring system

Owned by BHP Billiton, Yandi is an open-cut iron ore mine operating 24hrs a day 365 days a year. It is located approximately 170km north west of the Newman town site in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.  Our client has managed the operation since 1991, when mining commenced.  Yandi is one of three mines in the Pilbara region managed by HWE Mining for BHPB Billiton. It is one of the world's most premier iron ore mines excavating 56 million tonnes of material and 55 million tonnes of ore per annum.  The ore is railed to Port Hedland where it is loaded and shipped to overseas customers.  Production at Yandi has steadily increased over the years with our client handling over 40+ million tonnes of iron ore per year at the mine.

What skills and experience do you need?
To be considered for this role, you will have a Grade II Mine Surveying Certificate or be degree qualified. Previous open cut mine surveying experience using & maintaining a GPS system is essential.  You will also be able to demonstrate good communication skills and be capable of working independently and unsupervised.

As a Mechanical Engineer you will apply relevant engineering techniques and industry practices in order to meet agreed standards in line with the Maintenance Strategy.  Focusing on Ore Handling Plant equipment reliability and KPI reporting, you will be required to identify areas of potential improvement and implement processes and procedures to address these issues. In addition, this highly diverse role will offer you the opportunity to scope, design, manage and implement site specific engineering projects. You will be an integral part of the maintenance team and provide leadership and supervision to the condition monitoring and other work teams.

What skills and experience do you need?

To be considered for this position you will have previous hands-on, operational experience and strong analytical skills. You must have sufficient post graduate experience in the mining or resources sector with a relevant Engineering Degree. Ideally you will have experience in maintenance of OHP Equipment including conveyors, stackers, reclaimers, screens, chutes and associated plant.
